Focus on a more efficient way of living with specifically designed strength exercises while increasing your endurance with light cardio. Each session includes a warmup and cool down where we'll focus on balance and flexibility. No equipment is needed; however if you have a pair of light weights, please bring them to class! AARP Smart Driver course participants will learn: Proven safety strategies and valuable defensive driving skills How to stay current with the latest driving technologies The current rules of the road, specific to your community How to manage and accommodate common age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time Many participants may qualify for a multi-year automobile insurance discount by completing the course (check with your auto insurance agent for details). There are no tests required to pass the course. This 4 hour course is open to drivers of all ages and costs $25 for AARP members and $30 for non-members. The class will be taught by certified volunteer instructor Gretchen Zerba Lessard. As of July 1, 2024, the State of Minnesota no longer requires the 8-hour course to be taken at the beginning. Ms. Roxy is excited to promote a love of reading and host another American Girl Doll giveaway! After registering and paying, you will receive a reading log via email. For every 20 minutes you read with your child or that your child reads independently, fill in a circle on the log. Each 100 minutes earns you a ticket for a prize drawing of an American Girl doll. If you reach 1,800 minutes (30 hours), your name will be entered 18 times! Other prizes include: 400 minutes: American Girl Doll Water Bottle Sticker 800 minutes: Ice Cream Coupon 1200 minutes: An American Girl Doll Book 1800 minutes: American Girl Doll Tote Bag Your reading log must be turned in on or before August 17th as the winner will be drawn randomly on August 18th! The students will receive their certification card and instructions to access a digital copy of the Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) Student book at the end of class. From getting started with your business to collaborating with parents and children to key safety, caregiving, and first aid tips, CABS will help set you up for babysitting success. Students must be present for the entire class and complete achievement of the core learning objectives to receive certification valid for two years. Car Seat Safety Checks are hosted by the Hermantown Fire Department on the second Thursday of each month by appointment only, from 9:00-7:00 PM. She brings years of restaurant experience, concession work, and large‑group cooking, along with deep knowledge of cooking, baking, prep, safety, and storage. This class teaches kids the fundamentals of preparing food and using kitchen tools safely. Students will explore new ingredients, build confidence, and expand their ideas about food through fun, hands‑on experiences. Each class date introduces a new recipe to try, or a new appliance or tool to learn to use safely and effectively. Students will read and follow recipes, interpret food labels, practice safe appliance use, sample everything they make, and bring home recipes to share with their families.
