Early Learning hosts many pop-up events at minimal cost or free throughout the year to bring families from our communities together. This is an opportunity to spend quality time with your child(ren) participating in activities that are age-appropriate and joyous for children. We encourage all our families with young children to get out and explore the world through their eyes! Pop-up events are also a great way for families to participate in early learning if an ECFE class is not feasible for your family. It is also a great time to check in with our early childhood experts and ask questions about our programs, parenting questions, and learn more about your child's development. All our events are planned by our early learning staff because we enjoy helping families grow, and we know how essential it is to strengthen the family bond. Each event is one night only.

HERMANTOWN FIRST LEGO LEAGUE CHALLENGE (FLLC): 2025–2026 SEASON What is FLL Challenge? Friendly competition is at the heart of the FIRST LEGO League Challenge (FLLC), where teams of students ages 9–14 (grades 4–9) explore real-world problems through research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering. Using LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime robots, teams design, build, and program a robot to complete missions in a themed Robot Game. In addition to the Robot Game, each team develops an Innovative Project — a creative solution to a real-world problem aligned with the season's theme. Weekly meetings (schedule determined by each team’s coach) Scrimmages and weekend competitions vary by team interest SEASON TIMELINE – 2025–2026 July/August – Kits are ordered, and coaches begin communicating with families. Teams can start practicing. August 31 – Official release of the 2025–2026 FLL Challenge: UNEARTHED! July 31 – Registration deadline. All fees are due at the time of registration. August–November – Weekly team meetings (frequency set by coaches); field trips or guest speakers may enhance research December 6 – Regional Tournament at Hermantown (Top teams will advance to Sectionals, State, and even Worlds!) COST $175 per student (Covers tournament registration and team shirts) INTERESTED IN COACHING? Hermantown LEGO League provides guidance, support, and resources to help parent volunteers run a team. We can only form teams with enough coaches, so please consider volunteering! Coaching is a fun and rewarding way to support students as they learn to collaborate, build, and problem-solve. No robotics or programming experience is required. Coaches act as facilitators — helping students explore the challenge, build the robot, conduct research, and practice FIRST Core Values. Hermantown FIRST TECH CHALLENGE (FTC®) 2025-2026 competitive season Code, Design, and Compete with Robots! FIRST® Tech Challenge students work together with their mentors to design and build robots to compete in a dynamic and exciting challenge released every September. Teams program classroom-scale robots to follow autonomous commands before student drivers take control in two-on-two matches. On and off the field, students develop STEM skills, engage in community outreach, practice engineering innovation, and build confidence to help them succeed. Due to the popularity of this program, we are creating a second team this season! Who: Team selected students in grades 7-12, age 12-18 Dates: Sundays and Tuesdays starting September 7, 2025- February 15, 2026 Time: 5:30-8:30 PM in the MS Lecture hall and robotics room Cost: $200 Amelia Magnuson is the lead contact. Your child will dive into a thrilling "Fall" theme, packed with engaging activities such as making caramel apples, painting pumpkins, and more. This is an opportunity you don't want to miss! *Please pack a lunch and water bottle for your child each day!

Students will master the art of tying their own trout flies while becoming proficient with the essential tools and techniques. Each session will build on the previous lessons, guaranteeing that students will be confident in tying independently by the completion of the class. Furthermore, students will learn how to tie various types of flies designed explicitly for successful trout fishing in this area. Please bring $10 in cash for the supply fee payable to the instructor on the first day of class.

Proctor Hermantown Community Education is proud to partner with A+ Driving School for fully online classes. Youth Driver Education courses are designed to teach your student how to become a responsible and low risk driver. At the end of the program, your student will have gained the knowledge to successfully pass the written permit test, confidently drive on the road, and be prepared for his/her driver license exam. Each student will participate in 30 hours of online self-paced learning and six hours of behind-the-wheel with our licensed staff. Your students Behind-The-Wheel instructor will be Erik Edmunds. Start Date November 3. Information will be sent out one week prior. PARENT MEETING: Wednesday Nov. 12th from 5:30 - 7:00 pm. Mr. Edmunds classroom (311 at PHS) There will be an additional service fee of $20 once you sign into your online account. Open Play! Futsal is a variant of association football played on a hard court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It features similarities to five-a-side football. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted

A great opportunity for grandparents (or grand friends) to interact with their young learners and meet other grandparents in the community. The classroom will be set up with intentional learning activities, circle time, special stories, and more. Ages 0-5 years by September 1, 2025 Non-Separating

A diverse, multi-game program for students who want to sample a little of everything! This session will feature a variety of high-energy gym games. Students will develop new skills and learn the importance of good sportsmanship and being a team player. Game on! Let's play!

We invite you to join us and the "College in the Schools" Director of Lake Superior College to learn about the various options available for your child, including Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO), College in the Schools (CITS), Advanced Placement (AP), and College Level Examination Program (CLEP). We will discuss the different opportunities and address any questions that you may have while guiding your middle and high school students to the next level.
