This four-hour accident-prevention course is valid for new and renewing participants and can help you save a discount of 10% on your auto insurance for three years. The class is taught as a presentation from a certified instructor and there are NO TESTS and NO behind the wheel driving. Certificates will be provided at the end of class. AARP- Smart DriverSenior Health, Fitness, & SafetySince 1979, AARP Driver Safety has helped nearly 20 million people stay safe, educated and confident on the road. AARP Smart Driver course participants will learn: Proven safety strategies and valuable defensive driving skills How to stay current with the latest driving technologies The current rules of the road, specific to your community How to manage and accommodate common age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time Many participants may qualify for a multi-year automobile insurance discount by completing the course (check with your auto insurance agent for details). There are no tests required to pass the course. This 4 hour course is open to drivers of all ages and costs $25 for AARP members and $30 for non-members. The class will be taught by certified volunteer instructor Gretchen Zerba Lessard. As of July 1, 2024, the State of Minnesota no longer requires the 8-hour course to be taken at the beginning. Randy will have many handouts and visit about his 10 years of Amtrak Travel covering 21 different train trips and almost 91,000 miles. He will not sugar coat it but will give you the good and bad. He will tell you what to bring, what you can eat on the train and what not to do. He will talk about the Amtrak web page, how to make reservations and what Facebook pages you may want to join. You will see the different cars and the two different kinds of trains you can take. He will show some videos and will conduct the class as an open class, meaning you may ask questions whenever you want to. After the class he will make his phone number and email address available to the class for future help making reservations and to answer any questions that you might have. Battle of the Books: 2026/2027 School Year (Hermantown)Youth ClassesBattle of the Books is for students in Grades 3-5 who love to read. Students will read 6 books and discuss, ask questions, and prepare for the "game show" battle about the books. Students will need to read outside of school to prepare for each meeting. Kids' Zone allows kids to be kids. We offer ample time to play and have fun in a safe and supervised environment. We offer a wide variety of gym games, crafts, toys, activities as well as free time. Our activities enrich and engage children in a social environment that encourages cooperative play. Staff strives to maintain a 1:12 ratio that is below the State of Minnesota’s rate of 1:15. In the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training component, learn how to use the AED machines now available in most public buildings. First Aid is an optional add on to this course and will take place on the last date. If you only wish to be certified in CPR & AED, you will need to attend the first two dates.
