By supporting both exploration and comfort, it builds trust, secure attachment, and stronger co-regulation between parent and child. The Circle of Security is a visual framework for understanding attachment and is used in parent education and support programs. It helps caregivers recognize and respond to children’s needs by showing the balance between a child’s desire to explore the world and their need to return for comfort and reassurance. Within this model, the caregiver’s role is to provide both a secure base for exploration and a safe haven for emotional support.
